
Respite Support Aide (Male Preferred)

About the Role
At Bright Star Respite, our RSA’s complete the very crucial task of working directly with our kids and; their family either in their own home or out in the community. The tasks performed and the activities done will vary with each age group but below is a quick summary of the RSA job description:
★ Provide care and supervision to the child according to the care plan.
★ Provide support with activities of daily living such as toileting, diapering,
dressing and feeding the child.
★ Provide learning opportunities and behavioral support.
★ Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the child
★ Apply behavior management strategies as necessary.
★ Work with children with physical disabilities or developmental delays.
★ Communicate with an interdisciplinary team about the needs and progress of the child or family.
★ Support family members with learning new routines or behavior
management strategies.
★ Follow guidelines set by the pediatrician or the child’s class teacher; reference
IPP, care plan or family plan.
★ Attend monthly Service Team Meetings, scheduled training and other Bright Star
Respite PD Day events.
★ Record and document daily activities, contact on-call supervisor as necessary and create incident reports when necessary.
Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent education; Health Care Aide Certification or Community Support Worker, Education Assistant Program Certificate, or Equivalent post-secondary courses in child development and behavior management
Strong knowledge and skills in Google Suite.
Effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to relate to staff, parents, professionals and other members of the public
Current First Aid and CPR courses are an asset
2+ years of experience working with teens directly
