About the Role

At Bright Star Respite, our RSA’s complete the very crucial task of working directly with our kids and; their family either in their own home or out in the community. The tasks performed and the activities done will vary with each age group but below is a quick summary of the RSA job description:


★ Provide care and supervision to the child according to the care plan.
★ Provide support with activities of daily living such as toileting, diapering,
dressing and feeding the child.
★ Provide learning opportunities and behavioral support.
★ Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the child
★ Apply behavior management strategies as necessary.
★ Work with children with physical disabilities or developmental delays.
★ Communicate with an interdisciplinary team about the needs and progress of the child or family.
★ Support family members with learning new routines or behavior
management strategies.
★ Follow guidelines set by the pediatrician or the child’s class teacher; reference
IPP, care plan or family plan.
★ Attend monthly Service Team Meetings, scheduled training and other Bright Star
Respite PD Day events.
★ Record and document daily activities, contact on-call supervisor as necessary and create incident reports when necessary.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent education; Health Care Aide Certification or Community Support Worker, Education Assistant Program Certificate, or Equivalent post-secondary courses in child development and behavior management

  • Strong knowledge and skills in Google Suite.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to relate to  staff, parents, professionals and other members of the public

  • Current First Aid and CPR courses are an asset

  • 2+ years of experience working with teens directly

Supporting Documentation Required

  • Cover letter

  • ResumeChild Intervention Check (completed within the past 6 months)

  • All applicants will be required to complete a recent (within the past 6 months) Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check included

  • Indigenous Awareness Training

  • Caring for Autistic Kids Training

  • The ability to provide at least three professional references to the school

Salary

$18.00-$22.00 per hour

Edmonton, AB: reliably commute (required)
